Community Music Australia (CMA) has been established to strengthen, support and advocate for community music participation across Australia.
As a registered charity, Community Music Australia will work to ensure that community music organisations, volunteers and participants have a strong national voice. The organisation has been formed in recognition of the significant contribution community music makes to Australia’s cultural, social and community life.
Across the country, community bands, orchestras, choirs, ensembles and other music groups provide opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to connect, learn, perform and participate. These organisations enrich communities, support wellbeing and foster lifelong engagement with music, yet often operate with limited resources and recognition.
Community Music Australia has been established to address this gap by providing national leadership, advocacy, research and support for the sector.
The organisation’s work will focus on three key priorities:
- Advocate — championing greater recognition, support and investment for community music participation.
- Connect — building stronger networks between community music organisations, leaders and stakeholders across Australia.
- Support — providing research, resources and information to strengthen community music organisations and the people who lead them.
Community Music Australia welcomes engagement from community music organisations, musicians, volunteers, educators, researchers, policymakers and supporters who share a commitment to strengthening community music participation across Australia.
Together, we can build a stronger future for community music and ensure that every Australian has the opportunity to experience the benefits of making music together.
